Ricardo Clark has completed a move to German Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, at least for the remainder of the season.
The move could prove to be highly beneficial to the US national team regular as the current crop of US central midfielders continues to deepen. Clark faces competition for playing time from players like Michael Bradley, Maurice Edu, Benny Feilhaber, and Jermaine Jones (at least expected to be in contention for a starting spot once injuries heal).
He has solidified himself as a regular in Bob Bradley’s squad but will need to make an impact in the Bundesliga to ensure a starting spot in this year’s World Cup. The potential for immediate playing time is good, as Clark comes into Frankfurt following key injuries to the midfield.
I’d certainly like to see Clark learn to tackle with intelligence, as he often finds himself on the wrong end of bookings due to rash, careless, and often unnecessary challenges. Perhaps a few months of top European play, along with top referees will help him in this area.
